What Are Teacup Pigs?
There is a lot of misunderstanding about teacup pigs.
First off, most pictures of teacup pigs are of babies. Like all babies, they absolutely get bigger. There are no pigs that stay as small as a teacup. Most miniature pigs grow up to be between 35 and 150 pounds. That means the smallest pig will still be as big as a spaniel dog.
Also, teacup pigs are not a specific breed of miniature pig. All miniature pigs are a line of potbellied pigs that have been selected at each generation to stay small. Sometimes, other breeds are mixed in. Teacup just means it's a line of small pigs.
However, one breeder in England was the first to call his pigs "teacup pigs". It was reported that his pigs liked to drink tea. He has been breeding pigs for a decade, and has an especially small line of pigs, however, they are very hard to get. Other "teacup" pigs are very similar.
If babies grow up, how can you tell how big they will be?
Well, the best way is to look at their parents. If you decide to get a pig, request to see the parents. If the parents are full grown and aren't as small as you'd like, then the babies won't be either.
Lastly, some pet pig owners try to keep their pigs small by keeping them sick and undernourished. This is a cruel way to keep a pet. If you plan to have a pig, plan to keep it healthy and happy. Otherwise, choose another pet that is better for you.

Finding Teacup Pigs For Sale
When you're ready to find teacup pigs for sale, there are a couple of options.
First off, if you are willing to get a pig that is not the smallest of miniature pigs, many potbellied pigs can be found for free online. That is because people don't think about what size they are going to get, and then abandon them. There are shelters all over that you can search for online.
The next best option is to find a breeder near you. Finding someone local will allow you to go and see the parents and see how the pigs are raised. While most breeders are ethical, some will try to sell you pigs and lie about how big they will get, or mistreat the pigs before you get them.
Because pigs are so intelligent, getting a pig that has been mishandled will lead to more misbehavior over the life of the pig. So, you want to find someone you trust to buy your teacup pig from.
The last option is to find a breeder online that will ship a pig to you. This will give you the most options when it comes to finding a pig that is right for you.
Keep in mind though that it's also easier for bad breeders to ship their problems to you if you aren't careful. Again, just buy from people you trust. Talk to them on the phone a few times and build a relationship. Teacup pigs are not a cheap pet, and you want to get what you pay off.
Also, buying a pig online will add anywhere from $300-$750 to the cost of your teacup pig for sale. This covers things like crating, shipping, and health inspection costs.

I always wanted a mini potbelly. That would be awesome. I might get one if one of my dogs were to pass away. I hope that never happens though.
